Lake Forest College Student of Libertyville Honored with Research Scholarship

Britt Dahlin, class of 2021, of Libertyville, Illinois was accepted into the Richter Scholar Summer Research Program at Lake Forest College, where she will spend part of the summer researching alongside Assistant Professor of Music Anne Barry.

Dahlin is developing a sight-reading curriculum for the College's choir program to help build students' skills so that they have confidence in their knowledge of music. Through her research, Dahlin is creating basic- to intermediate-level exercises, assisting in choosing a selection of pieces that allow the singers to apply their new skills, and designing a booklet of these exercises and samples using a music-notation software.

Academically excellent students with an interest in research are invited to apply for the Richter program in the early spring of their first year. During this time, they work one-on-one with a faculty member, doing independent research in one of a wide variety of fields. As the Richter Scholars live and work together and participate in a weekly colloquium, they become a community of peers, providing encouragement and support for one another's research endeavors. The result is a group of scholars motivated to continue their intellectual achievement in the future.
