Treat guns like cars

The Daily Herald editorial, "Time to get serious about protecting our kids," published May 23, 2018, addressed protecting our kids in school. When will it be time to get serious about protecting citizens on the south and west sides of Chicago?

Let's treat gun ownership like we treat motor vehicle ownership.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms is dependent upon the necessity of a well-regulated militia to the security of a free state. Arms bearers in any state should be considered part of that state's regulated militia.

The ownership of guns is not in question. Combining the Second Amendment with the Tenth Amendment, " … powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people," makes states responsible for gun regulation. State failure to regulate guns encourages gun violence in America.

The licensing of autos and their drivers along with required titling and insurance coverage has over a century of success and acceptance by the American public. This has always been a function of the States.

What is unconstitutional with this gun regulation proposal?
