Indiana town seeks demolition of decaying, long-vacant hotel

BATTLE GROUND, Ind. (AP) - A northern Indiana town has gone to court in its bid to get a decaying, long-vacant hotel demolished.

Attorneys for the Tippecanoe County town of Battle Ground recently sued an Illinois-based investment group and other entities, asking a judge to clear the way for demolition of the former Holiday Inn and Days Inn.

The civil complaint says the former hotel buildings along Interstate 65 and Indiana 43 just north of Lafayette are a dangerous nuisance and contends that work on a planned new hotel at the site has stopped.

The Journal & Courier reports town officials had agreed a year ago to temporarily put a judge's demolition order on hold.

The vacant hotel is visible to travelers along I-65. It opened in 1972, but it's been vacant since 2003.
