New Albany man gets 65 years for fatally beating friend

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a southern Indiana man to 65 years in prison for fatally beating a friend whom prosecutors said also was tortured.

Forty-three-year-old Noah Nevil of New Albany received the maximum sentence Thursday after being convicted of murder May 10 in the 2015 slaying of 58-year-old Earl Moore.

Prosecutors say Nevil beat Moore, left him for dead and set the victim's home on fire. Moore was pulled from the burning home but later died in a hospital.

One of Nevil's attorneys said he likely will appeal.

Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson called the crime was "heinous" and said "Nevil should neither be released from prison nor ever see the free light of day."

Caroline Krouse, a cousin of Moore, said the sentencing brings some closure for the family.
