June 6th WE DAY celebration at Anne Sullivan School in Prospect Heights

Each year the 30 Ambassadors have had both a global and local focus in their service projects. They have led projects to build a school in Southeast Asia, provide wells for clean water in that community as well as in Haiti, and send 15 goats to Ecuador to families for sustainable incomes. While these 30 Ambassadors plan the activities, the entire Sullivan student body participates all year long. Last year, all of the 4th and 5th grade classes went to Feed My Starving Children to pack food for various countries.

Within our own community, the Ambassadors have established a camp scholarship fund, and through dance-athons, walk-athons and other schoolwide events have sent 5-10 District 23 students to summer camp at Gary Morava for the past 7 summers. In addition, the school has had many food drives for the Wheeling Food Pantry. This year, they partnered with Grandbrier Assisted Living center, having the residents come once a month to the school to join in activities such as bingo, listening to a concert, coloring and playing board games.

The WE DAY celebration will give a historic overview of the accomplishments from the past 10 years and encourage students to continue making the world a better place.
