Pulisic dropped from US roster; Yedlin, Adams, Wood added
CHICAGO (AP) - Midfielder Christian Pulisic was among seven players dropped from the U.S. roster for exhibitions at Ireland and France, and 10 additions included defender DeAndre Yedlin, midfielder Tyler Adams and forward Bobby Wood.
Defender Walker Zimmerman, who scored the opening goal in Monday's 3-0 win over Bolivia , also was cut along with goalkeeper Alex Bono, who got the shutout in his national team debut. Other cuts included goalkeeper Ethan Horvath, defender Matt Olosunde and midfielders Alejandro Guido and Lynden Gooch.
Goalkeepers Zack Steffen and William Yarbrough were added along with defenders Shaq Moore and Tim Parker and midfielders Luca de la Torre, Kenny Saief and Will Trapp.
De la Torre, Moore and Parker could make their national teams debuts.
Pulisic looked tired after the end of his season with Borussia Dortmund but wanted to play in Monday's match in Chester, Pennsylvania, not far from his hometown of Hershey.
The U.S. failed to qualify for the World Cup after seven straight appearances. The Americans play Ireland, which also is not going to the tournament, on Saturday in Dublin. The U.S. faces France at Lyon on June 9, a prep match for Les Bleus before their World Cup opener against Australia on June 16.
Josh Sargent and Tim Weah, a pair of 18-year-olds who got their first internationals goals Monday, remain on the roster. Weah is a son of Liberia President George Weah, the 1995 Player of the Year.
The average age of the 25 players is 23 years, 102 days, up from 22-286 from the group that trained in Philadelphia to play the Bolivians. Fifteen players are 23 and younger; right back Eric Lichaj, left back Jorge Villafana and Yarborough are the only ones born before 1990.
"The games against Ireland and France will bring increasingly more difficult challenges, so we felt it was important to bring in some players that offer a bit more experience," U.S. interim coach Dave Sarachan said.
Sarachan has led the Americans to two wins and two draws since replacing Bruce Arena, who quit after the loss at Trinidad and Tobago last October eliminated the U.S. in World Cup qualifying, and 15 players have made their debuts in those four matches. The U.S. has a 329-minute scoreless streak.
