Northwest Festival Orchestra performs Friday at Wright College

The Northwest Festival Orchestra, based in Arlington Heights, will present "A Mahler Potpourri" in a joint concert with The Northwest Chicago Symphony at Wright College.

The joint performance will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 1, in the Theater at Wright College, 4300 N. Narragansett Ave., Chicago. Dr. Verne Schwager, resident conductor of the Northwest Festival Orchestra and assistant conductor of the Northwest Chicago Symphony, will conduct.

The combined orchestras will be joined by local vocalists Lindsey Poling Baer, mezzo soprano, and Keven Keys, baritone.

The all-Mahler program includes selections from "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" (The Youth's Magic Horn), Symphony No. 1 in D Major (excerpt), and the rarely performed "Blumine" (Flower Piece).

Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students.

The Northwest Chicago Symphony Orchestra was established in the fall of 1979 as a result of numerous inquiries from Wright College graduates seeking performance outlets. The orchestra has grown to more than 60 musicians who give four performances each season.

The Northwest Festival Orchestra is comprised of younger professional musicians who share a common passion for creating and sharing music at the highest level. The ensemble's programs are devoted to both classical and contemporary repertoire spanning the orchestral spectrum.
