Free Kid's Combine kicks off NFL Flag Football on June 2

On June 2, the Gurnee Park District invites athletes ages 8-13 to a free Kid's Combine at Hunt Club Park. In anticipation of the new NFL Flag Football League, sponsored by USA Football, young athletes will pass, punt, run and have fun with football-related activities. Kid's Combine will take place from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Gurnee Park District staff will be available to answer additional question about the upcoming league.

According to USA Football, the mission of NFL Flag Football is "to design and deliver premier educational, developmental and competitive programs to: advance and grow the sport, lead coach and player development, connect the football community and celebrate the games inherent values." Their vision is "to unite the football community, promote the game's inherent values, and evolve the sport through innovative standards and programming." "With flag football, the NFL is able teach and instill a lifelong passion for the game in a safe environment," said Chris Marzano, CPRP Youth Athletics Supervisor. "NFL Flag Football welcomes every age and ability level, providing an opportunity for kids to stay active."

After the free June 2 Kid's Combine, the youth flag football season will start on June 21 and end on Aug. 11. Registration is available online at register.gurneeparkdistrict.com.

Information for NFL Flag Football participants:

• All players will receive a reversible NFL team jersey and set of flags

• A mouth guard needs to be purchased prior to the first day of practice

• Cleats are recommended, but not necessary. Metal cleats are not allowed

• Game days will be on Saturdays, June 23 to Aug. 11

• Practices will be held on Thursday or Friday, based on volunteer coach availability

• Games and practices will be held at Hunt Club Park 920 N. Hunt Club Road.

• 10 players will be placed on each team

• League divisions will be based on age: 8-10 years old and 11-13 years old.
