Some ideas to combat 'copy cat' shooters

It's a shame we have yet another school shooting, this time in Santa Fe, Texas.

It appears we now have "copycat" shootings, and I'm afraid they will continue. Of note, this time the shooter used a shotgun and revolver, neither of which are "high magazine / assault weapons."

The news media and many anti-gun groups are saying "when will there be change?" There have been many writings and suggestions for more gun control.

Guess what, bad guys don't follow the rules. As long as schools are designated "gun free zones" with little or no true defense, I fear this will continue.

Here are some suggestions how these shootings could be limited: One, have limited access to the building and utilize metal detectors. Two, lock down the school after classes start so that no one can enter the building after certain hours. Three, have school resource officers armed with rifles in addition to handguns. This gives the trained office an upper hand. Four, support and train teachers willing to defend their students.

I agree this is a very harsh change to typical school education, but we must not forget how we have changed since 9/11.
