St. Charles, Elgin beneficiaries of fundraiser by Michael Phelps, Jason Day
Michael Phelps, the world's most decorated Olympian, and Jason Day, one of the world's top golfers, joined forces Sunday and Monday by hosting the 2nd Annual Golf. Give. Gala.
The event kicked off Sunday with silent and live auctions at the Hotel Baker followed by a concert at the Arcada Theatre.
Monday's golf outing was rained out at St. Charles Country Club.
The event, presented by ALE Solutions, raised funds for Phelps' and Day's respective foundations.
Net proceeds benefit the Michael Phelps Foundation, and Jason and Ellie Day's Brighter Days Foundation as well as support several local causes.
"We are excited to give back to St. Charles and the surrounding area," Phelps said in a statement, noting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Elgin is also a beneficiary. "We are working with local organizations that share our mission to help grow the sport of swimming and encourage healthy lifestyles, especially for children."
Brighter Days Foundation is providing support to Lazarus House in St. Charles.
