Girls soccer: Palatine ousts top seed Lake Zurich
Palatine's girls soccer team played the role of giant-killer on Friday.
The Pirates, seeded No. 8 in the Libertyville sectional, knocked off No. 1 seed Lake Zurich in the Class 3A regional final at Warren.
Seniors Sarah Clancy and Anja Jacobsen had the goals for Palatine, which advances into the Libertyville sectional semifinal round at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Pirates will meet No. 4 seed Carmel, a 4-2 victor against fifth-seeded Mundelein.
Barrington 4, Rockton Hononegah 0: Mid-Suburban League girls soccer champion Barrington scored 4 first-half goals and ended up shutting out Rockton Hononegah in Class 3A regional final play Friday at Rockford Auburn.
The Fillies advance to a sectional semifinal berth at Rockford Guilford on Tuesday.
Evanston 1, Prospect 0: The sixth-seeded Knights took regional host Evanston to the second overtime before bowing out of the postseason.
Evanston advances for a Glenbrook South sectional semifinal matchup against New Trier at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
St. Viator 6, Grayslake Central 1: In Class 2A regional final play hosted by Amundsen, the No. 3 seed advanced into the sectional it will host next week.
The Lions will face the winner of Saturday's Deerfield/Grayslake North game at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a sectional semifinal. That game will be preceded by Vernon Hills vs. Wauconda at 5 p.m.
