Baseball: Glavey tosses no-hitter; Grayslake Central clinches share of NLCC title
Brock Glavey fired a 5-inning no-hitter, leading Wauconda to an 11-0 win over Round Lake in Northern Lake County Conference baseball action on Tuesday.
Glavey struck out nine and walked two. He helped his own cause with a double, and Anthony Bonk, Camden Janik and Brett Winkel doubled as well. Keegan Henley went 2-for-2 for the Bulldogs.
Grayslake Central 7, Grant 4: The host Rams rallied from a 4-3 deficit, scoring 4 runs in the sixth of the Northern Lake County game.
In picking up its 23rd win on the season and improving to 13-3 in the conference, Grayslake Central clinched a share of the NLCC title.
Kevin O'Brien, Joey Webster, Antonio Crews and Clay Stoffel all had hits in the sixth-inning rally. Crews, Stoffel and Daniel Guckenberger all had a pair of hits for the Rams.
Coby Moe tossed the final 5 innings for the Rams, allowing no earned runs while fanning 11 hitters.
Grant (18-9, 9-7) got 3 hits from Henry Kusiak and two from Jimmy Friel. Chase Maifield had a double and 3 RBI, and Mikal Ashley doubled as well.
Grayslake North 9, Antioch 4: Andrew Keaskowski was 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI for the host Knights in the Northern Lake County game.
Jason Dononue (3 RBI) and Nick Lovitsch each had a pair of hits for Grayslake North (16-12-1, 11-5).
Antioch's John Petty and Austin Delgado each had a single and an RBI.
Stevenson 2, Warren 0: Michael Thon (4⅔ innings), Matthew Mittelmark (2 innings) and Nick Bonk (⅓ inning) combined on a 3-hitter, as the Patriots picked up the shutout in North Suburban action.
Libertyville 11, Zion-Benton 1: At Miller Park in Milwaukee, Marco Scopacasa earned the win on the mound and went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI, as the Wildcats won the North Suburban contest.
Mundelein 4, Lake Zurich 1: Steven Sanchez had 10 strikeouts in 6 innings, and the Mustangs scored 3 runs in the top of the seventh to win the first of three scheduled games against the Bears in North Suburban Conference action this week.
Connor Ashton had a single and 2 RBI in his only plate appearance for Mundelein, Jeff Morton was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI, and TJ Yakimisky had a double. Sanchez issued 3 hits and 4 walks, and Ryan Patel struck out two in the seventh to earn the save.
Carmel 3, Notre Dame 0: Ben Wiegman fired a 3-hit shutout and went 2-for-3 with a double for the Corsairs in the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.
Brandon Banker was 1-for-2 with 2 RBI for Carmel (15-9, 9-6). Wiegman struck out eight and walked one.
Deerfield 3, Vernon Hills 1: Miles Powell allowed only 3 hits while striking out nine and walking three, as the Warriors won in Central Suburban Leaguie action.
Vernon Hills (9-18-1, 3-12) scored in the sixth, when Tony Brown tripled and scored on a wild pitch. Cougars pitchers Kyle Fasbinder, Michael Moore and Jack Peterson combined to allowed 2 earned on 2 hits.
