Girls soccer: Aurora Central wins 1A regional

Aurora Central Catholic's girls soccer team became Class 1A regional champions Friday, beating No. 2 Indian Creek 3-1.

Hosting their own regional, the No. 3 seed Chargers (14-6-2) were able to celebrate their second-straight regional title win at home and their third overall in 4 years.

The Chargers will head to the Hinckley-Big Rock sectional Tuesday to face off with top seed Rockford Lutheran in a semifinal at 4:30 p.m.

Johnsburg 3, Harvest Christian 2 (OT): The Lions (10-7-1) came up a little short in Friday's Class 1A Johnsburg regional championship, losing in a heartbreaker to the host Skyhawks in overtime. Harvest, which was looking for its first regional title since 2016, fell behind 1-0 but managed to tie it in the first half on Holley Colclasure's goal. Down 2-1, Sonja Jeninks' goal at 63:12, assisted by Taylor Keeran, forced overtime, where Johnsburg scored the game-winner 6 minutes in. Goalkeeper Isa Garcia, who saw 14 shots come her way, provided 11 saves.
