Girls track and field: Delahanty powers Rosary to sectional title

Senior Brooke Delahanty won the 800 and 400 meter events Thursday at the Class 2A Lisle girls track sectional, powering Rosary to the team championship with 95.5 points.

Sterling was second with 73.5 points and Burlington Central came in third with 58 points.

Rosary also won the 1,600 relay and finished 1-2 in the triple jump with freshman Lauren Roskuszka going 33-1ΒΌ inches to win the event and freshman Annie Molenhouse finishing second.

Other state qualifiers for the Royals included the 400 relay team (2nd), the 800 relay team (3rd), Roskuszka in the long jump (2nd) and senior Julianne Hutchison in the 100 (2nd).

Burlington Central's qualifiers included the 3,200 relay team, the 1,600 relay team, sophomore Megan Gasparaitis in the pole vault (2nd) and freshman Brooke Barkocy in the 100 hurdles (2nd).

Aurora Central Catholic sophomore Ella Englehardt won the high jump at 5 feet, 1 inch while Chargers freshman Maggie Dervis was second in the 400.

Class 3A at DeKalb: Senior Kate Bessey won the shot put (39 feet) and junior Mary Raclawski took top honors in the 800 (2:19.47) as Huntley finished second to Belvidere North at the DeKalb sectional. Belvidere North had 116.25 points and the Red Raiders scored 85.75. By finishing second in each event, Huntley advanced its 400, 800 and 1,600 relay teams. Also qualifying for state for the Raiders were senior McKenzie Krich in the high jump (3rd), senior Chloe Smith in the high jump (5th), sophomores Kendall Only and Daryn Davis in the triple jump and Davis in the high hurdles (2nd). Hampshire qualified sophomore Hannah Evinger in the high jump and senior Sophia Oury in the 1,600.
