Registration open for Salute, Inc. Memorial Day run in Arlington Heights

Registration is open for the Salute, Inc. annual Memorial Day 5K/10K race in Arlington Heights to support the financial, physical and emotional needs of injured military service members, veterans and their families.

The race will begin at 8 a.m. Monday, May 27, at Recreation Park, 500 E. Miner St. Registration is open until 7:45 a.m. on the morning of the race, but runners are encouraged to register before May 17.

New this year is a USA Track & Field-certified course, a post-race pancake breakfast, and a challenge from Arlington Heights Mayor Tom Hayes, who's pledged to donate $5 to Palatine-based Salute for every runner who tops his 5K time.

"This is a very important event for us," said Salute co-founder and Executive Director Mary Beth Beiersdorf. "Not only does the event bring the community together, it raises awareness for the Salute mission and the fact that there are many veterans in need who are living in our community."
