Fugitive Park City man arrested in Texas
An Illinois man who police said was on the run was taken into custody in Texas Thursday, authorities said.
On April 11, a Lake County Judge issued an arrest warrant for Jose H. Aponte, of the 3300 block of Erie Boulevard in Park City, after police received a report that Aponte had sexual relations with a juvenile, according to a news release from the Lake County sheriff's office.
A few days later, police in Lake County said they believed Aponte had likely fled to Texas. They contacted the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force from the U.S. Marshals Service, who began searching for Aponte, the release said.
Aponte, 38, was apprehended May 3, after police observed him leaving a retail store in Killeen, Texas, north of Austin, according to the release.
Aponte is being held in Bell County, Texas, where he remains until an extradition hearing, officials said.
