Local spa sees increase in brides asking for Meghan Markle treatments
An interview with Anna Pamula, owner of Renu Day Spa in Deerfield.
Q: Tell us a little bit about the business and who you work with.
A: Renu Day Spa has been in business for over 30 years. I am the sole owner and operator and have built the business since inception. We are a full service spa, working with men, women and children to meet all of their needs. We pride ourself on having the most cutting edge treatments and products for our clients as well as an immaculate setting.
Q: And you are seeing a relation to the Royal wedding coming up?
A: Yes … we are seeing a great deal of brides coming in for all types of beauty treatments similar to what Meghan Markle is doing … we offer many different types of facials, massage, body wraps and relaxation techniques both for the bride and the groom.
Q: Tell us about the royal treatments.
A: According to Ayurvedic philosophy, the bride engages in a ritual to detoxify her body starting 40 days before the wedding. At Renu, we take you through all the steps … we have recreated the ritual … but we perform it in 4 hours. We give our clients a "Dosha" test so we can determine what body type she has and what essential oils would be used on her for treatments.
Brides begin a series of body treatments to optimize the health of your skin. They like to experience the latest advances in natural enzyme-based skin-care products. We start a series of body treatments to improve muscle tone of the breast area and to minimize cellulite. Waxing begins 60 days before the wedding date and then one week before.
Wax now, bikini, face and body, to ensure that any minor irritation is gone by the big day and that the skin is still soft and silky for the honeymoon. The final skin intensive treatment should be done now. Receive your final facial and back facial to maintain that natural healthy glow. Brides also have a Hand Renew Treatment.
Mandi Lulus Bridal Ritual: Originating in the royal palaces of Java as a pre-wedding ritual the bride to be would receive a full body massage with jasmine oil followed by a Lulur (meaning coating the skin) paste which is an aromatic body exfoliating mask. The body mask was then followed by a milk bath strewn with flow petals and traditionally called a MandiSusu.
We recreated and upgraded the service to the needs of today's women. The treatment starts with Rich Pine Foot Cleansing and a cup of spiced herbal tea. That will help you take a deep breath and focus on enjoying the ritual which will start with our Organic facial. This facial leaves your skin glowing and your body hungry for more pampering.
Aromatherapy oils are next used and massaged in your feet and palms of your hands. Next the practitioner will hold her hands over the Chakras to attract the purest and the most healing universal energy for the client.
Q: Describe the atmosphere at the spa.
A: Calm, soothing, inviting, friendly … like a family.
Q: What are people in your industry talking about? What's trending?
A: Powder dip manicures as well as 9Free Dazzle Dry manicures, which means that the 9 most dangerous chemicals that are typically found in nail polish are eliminated. This means that pregnant women, teens and people with low immune systems can use without worrying about side effects. We also are seeing trends with the use of CBD oils., organic facials, use of essential oils in all treatments.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself. What is your past experience in the industry?
A: I immigrated from Poland in 1982 and started the business to fulfill my childhood dreams … to own a spa. I took classes and became certified as an aesthetician and massage therapist and worked solo for almost 2 years. Then as the business grew, I began hiring and training more people and today we have 27 licensed facialists, massage therapists, nail technicians as well as healers.
Q: Tell us one interesting fact about the business that most people may not know.
A: We are the only spa in the area that has autoclave (which is primarily used in doctors offices) which is a strong, heated container used for chemical reactions and other processes using high pressures and temperatures to provide steam sterilization. We are the only spa in the area which has disposable tools for manicures and pedicures to ensure safety for our clients and non transmittal of diseases.
