Baseball: Grayslake North edges Lake Zurich; Mundelein stays hot

Matt Rennolds had the game-winning RBI as Grayslake North's baseball team picked up an 11-10 victory over Lake Zurich in nonconference play Saturday.

The Knights improved to 11-11-1 this spring.

Nick Lovitsch led Grayslake North with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate while teammates Jason Donohue, Austin Delao, Sebastian Sancen and Trace Takovic each got 2 hits apiece.

Winning pitcher James Straten pitched 2 innings.

For Lake Zurich, which had 5 errors, Tyler Snep, Josh Anderson, Austin Krause and Noah Deluga each had 2 hits.

Mundelein 11, Hononegah 5: Ben Holly went 4-for-4 with 4 RBI to lead Mundelein to the win. The Mustangs scored 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Mason Schaller and Ryan Patel added 3 hits apiece.

Winning pitcher Ethan Ekstrom had 2 strikeouts in three innings.

In a second game, Mundelein and Hononegah tied at 6-6 through five innings.

Sam Eddy and Rahul Champaneri each had 2 hits for Mundelein.

Warren splits: Warren got a 10-0 win over Waukegan but lost to Fremd, 5-3.

Against Waukegan, Casey Coby and Nate Rentas had home runs.

Against Fremd, Rentas has 2 hits, both doubles and Sam Deluca had 2 hits.

Round Lake sweeps: Round Lake got a pair of wins over North Shore Country Day, 6-2, 7-5.

In the 6-2 win, Lucas Hollingsworth had 2 hits, a double and a triple. Winning pitcher Zachary Lee had 3 strikeouts in one inning.

In the 7-5 win, Tyler Roman had 3 hits and drove in 4 runs for Round Lake.

Winning pitcher Jorge Contreras had 2 strikeouts and gave up just 1 walk in three innings.

Barrington 7, Libertyville 6: Both Barrington and Libertyville had 11 hits each but Libertyville had 2 errors.

Tim Jean led the Libertyville offense with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. He also drove in 2 runs.

Andrew Kim also had 2 RBI and Tanner Kelly had 2 hits for the Wildcats.

Joliet Catholic sweeps Carmel: Joliet Catholic got two East Suburban Catholic Conference wins over Carmel, dropping Carmel to 12-8 overall and 6-5 in league play.

In the first game, Joliet Catholic got a 3-0 shutout.

Austin Ehren had 2 hits, including a double for Carmel.

In the second game, a 3-2 Joliet Catholic win, Lukas Galdoni went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Sean Lynch and Jimmy Tarzon each drove in runs for the Corsairs.

Vernon Hills 11, Niles North 1 (6): Vernon Hills needed a win and turned to its ace, Danny Wizceb.

"Wiz" rose to the occasion pitching five innings allowing no runs, on no hits while striking out 7 and walking 2. Jack Peterson pitched the sixth inning allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 2 and walking 1.

Jake Morris lead the way offensively with 3 hits and an RBI. Josh Boyer had two hits and drove in two runs. Brendan Holloway had a hit and drove in two runs.

Vernon Hills improved to 8-14-1 and 2-9 in the CSL.
