Elgin third-graders bring history to life through 'wax museum'

Hilltop Elementary School third-graders created their own "wax museum" Thursday as part of an assignment on biographies of historical figures who accomplished something important.

Students at the Elgin school dressed up in costumes as their chosen figures might have worn and delivered short speeches, while family members and other Hilltop students toured the "museum."

"The goal of the assignment is to not only learn about all of the people, but to engage in conversations and begin to understand how our lives, society, culture and opportunities have changed because of these figures and their inventions, achievements and struggles," teacher Missy Ross said.

Students also completed other projects that were displayed outside the classroom. Among them was a student's persuasive writing on why a subject deserved the (pretend) honor of "Hilltop's Most Incredible Person Award."
