Historical society to hold annual meeting
The Dundee Township Historical Society will hold its annual meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at the museum, 426 Highland in West Dundee.
Following the brief meeting, a special program titled "Voices From Afar" will tell the story of the early immigrants who came to Dundee Township from across the ocean to build a better life for their families.
Hear the story of a Scottish mother and her seven children, a jeweler from Germany, a mother who rescued her soldier son during the Civil War, and more stories of early times.
Admission is free. For more information, call the museum at (847) 428-6996, or visit dundeetownshiphistorical.org or www.facebook.com/DundeeTownshipHistoricalSociety/.
The museum displays change each season to give residents the best opportunity to be introduced to different facets of the local heritage. One of the permanent exhibits features Allan Pinkerton, founder of the famous American private detective agency.
The museum collection contains books, documents, pictures, slides, probate records, newspapers, and census records. There is source material from local writers: Irma Dupre, Vi Rouley, Fred Holmes; a complete microfilm record of the Dundee Hawkeye newspaper from 1890 to 1916; an extensive collection of Illinois Iron and Bolt ledger books; information and books on Alan Pinkerton; and local genealogies.
