Baseball: Pardini produces as Rolling Meadows rolls
Rolling Meadows senior Nate Pardini had his best outing as a starter, striking out 11 and allowing 1 hit in a complete-game performance as the Mustangs handled host Elk Grove 12-1 in a Mid-Suburban East matchup Monday.
Rolling Meadows (7-9-1, 5-4) had plenty of success at the plate, starting with a 5-run rally in the top of the first inning.
Brandon Janowicz doubled twice and drove in 3 runs, and Jack Kane (3 RBI) and Matt Lothery also had doubles.
Pardini singled, drew 3 walks and scored 3 runs, and Joe Coen and Lothery each had a pair of hits as Meadows climbed into second place in the East.
Zach Schwartz had the hit for Elk Grove (5-11-1, 2-6), a double.
Palatine 13, Conant 3 (6 inn.): Palatine's Jacks were too much for visiting Conant on this day.
Jack Betz homered twice and drove in 4 runs, while teammate Jack Hopper homered and tripled, also driving in 4 runs in MSL West action.
Josh Stitt finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBI for the Pirates (15-9, 6-3). Other big producers included Jake Andersen (2-for-3, double, 2 RBI) and Matthew Helms (double, 2 walks).
Palatine starter Evan Daly went the distance, allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run in his 6 innings.
Conant (10-9-1, 5-4) was led by Dave Sapyta, who finished 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Jack Reiger had the Cougars' other hit, a double.
Hoffman Estates 5, Fremd 3: The host Hawks got a productive start from Sam Herbert and plenty of contributions at the plate to gain an MSL West win that snapped a 10-game losing streak.
Herbert lasted 6 innings, allowing 7 hits and a walk while striking out six. Jon Keller entered with one out in the seventh and retired both of the batters he faced to earn a save.
Kyle Krogstad doubled twice to lead a 9-hit attack for Hoffman Estates (5-11, 1-7).
Jim Kliver (2-for-3), Dakota Slingerland and Logan Willis (2 RBI) also had doubles.
Notre Dame 12, St. Viator 2 (6 inn.): The Dons limited the Lions to 4 singles to pick up a win in East Suburban Catholic Conference action.
Jackson Kaplowitz had a solo homer in a 5-run fifth inning for Notre Dame, which added a 6-run rally in the bottom of the sixth.
The hits for St. Viator (11-11, 2-7) came from Ryan Stejskal, Conor Warner, Jake Sinnema and Casey Pulikowski.
Prospect 12, Hersey 11: Nick Ergastolo drew a bases-loaded walk to cap a 2-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Knights in MSL East play.
Prospect led 7-4 after the third inning but headed to the bottom of the sixth trailing 10-8 after run-scoring rallies by Hersey in the fourth and fifth innings.
Ergastolo finished 3-for-3 with a pair of walks and 4 RBI, and teammate Ethan Burgh finished 2-for-3 with 4 RBI. John Czeslawski and Ryan Howe had 2 hits apiece, and Ed Brancato went 3-for-4.
Bryce Jensen picked up the win in relief for Prospect (11-8, 4-4).
Hersey (9-14-1, 4-6) got doubles from Cade O'Neal, Cristian Rodriguez, Daniel Clawson and James Denten. O'Neal finished 4-for-5, and Rodriguez and Clawson (3 RBI) both had a pair of hits.
Barrington 20, Schaumburg 5 (5 inn.): AJ Christoffer homered twice and David Mitchell doubled twice to pace another big Barrington hitting performance.
The MSL West leaders improved to 15-3-2 overall and 10-0 in the division after pounding out 18 hits. Christoffer drove in 5 runs, Mitchell finished 3-for-3 with 4 RBI and Michael Zavoli, Mikey Owsley and Johnny Gagne had 2 hits apiece.
Jack Lancaster stepped up for Schaumburg, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and 2 RBI.
Buffalo Grove 16, Wheeling 6 (6 inn.): Riley Rundquist's fourth-inning grand slam highlighted a road win for the Bison in MSL East action.
Rundquist finished 3-for-5 with 5 RBI for the divisonal leaders.
Anthony Adams and Tyler Concialdi both doubled for Buffalo Grove (18-3, 10-0), and starter Danny Pocklington earned a win after allowed 2 runs over 4 innings.
Cade Zalewski drove in 3 runs for Wheeling (10-10, 3-6), and Andy Shover (2 RBI) and Cade Kaplan both had doubles.
Highland Park 9, Maine West 5: The visiting Warriors got great production out of Matty Mustari, Cory Scholler and Matt Johnston, but 4 errors helped account for 5 unearned runs allowed as Maine West (6-10) fell short in Central Suburban North play.
Mustari doubled twice and finished 3-for-3, Scholler was 2-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI and Johnston finished 2-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base.
