Girls water polo: Barrington hangs on at Elk Grove
Barrington's girls water polo team held a 6-1 advantage over host Elk Grove, then had to hang on late for a 7-6 victory in a Mid-Suburban League crossover matchup of second-place divisional finishers.
Top producers for Elk Grove includded Alyssa Bonilla (2 goals, 6 steals), Rachel Ford (1 assist, 2 steals), Kaylee Hatfield (goal, 2 assists, 2 steals), Abby Farmer (goal, assist) and Gillian Guerra (goal, 2 assists, 1 steal).
Goalie Melena Herrera stopped 15 shots for Elk Grove (18-8).
Barrington improved to 16-7.
• In the other divisional crossovers on Monday, Prospect topped Fremd 8-6 in overtime in the third-place matchup, Hoffman Estates edged Wheeling 8-5 and Rolling Meadows bettered Palatine 10-7.
