Girls water polo: Barrington hangs on at Elk Grove

Barrington's girls water polo team held a 6-1 advantage over host Elk Grove, then had to hang on late for a 7-6 victory in a Mid-Suburban League crossover matchup of second-place divisional finishers.

Barrington improved to 16-7.

• In the other divisional crossovers on Monday, Prospect topped Fremd 8-6 in overtime in the third-place matchup, Hoffman Estates edged Wheeling 8-5 and Rolling Meadows bettered Palatine 10-7.
