Baseball: High-scoring Hersey sweeps Warren

Hersey's flair for the dramatic was on display Saturday in a nonconference baseball doubleheader against visiting Warren.

In Game 1, the Huskies jumped ahead with a 7-run first inning but had to battle a resilient Blue Devils team the rest of the way to earn a 17-15 victory.

Cade O'Neal (double, triple) and Cristian Rodriguez drove in 4 runs apiece, and Kyle Smith finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBI for Hersey. Joining the 17-hit effort were AJ Ceffalio (4-for-5), Daniel Clawson (2-for-5, double).

Both teams committed 8 errors.

In Game 2, coach Wally Brownley's team trailed 9-2 entering the bottom of the seventh and had a rally for the ages, scoring 8 runs to win 10-9. Ryan Trachsel drove in the decisive run with a single.

Daniel Clawson finished 2-for-3 with a double, O'Neal had a double and Trachsel had a pair of hits.

Kyle Smith earned the win after allowing 7 runs over 4⅓ innings. Only 1 of those runs was earned as the Huskies (9-13-1) committed 7 errors.

Buffalo Grove 6, Stevenson 4: The Mid-Suburban East leaders faced a 3-0 deficit after the first inning but battled back to reclaim the lead and eventually the victory.

Mac Camardo homered and doubled out of the cleanup spot for the Bison, finishing 2-for-4 with 4 RBI.

Connor Adams pitched 6 innings and allowed 2 earned runs with 4 strikeouts, and Zach Fricke pitched a scoreless relief inning for the Bison (17-3).

Tyler Concialdi doubled as Buffalo Grove overcame 5 errors in stretching its win streak to 13.

Plainfield North 11, Barrington 3: The Mid-Suburban West leaders came up short as host Plainfield North banged out four extra-base hits and 13 total.

The Broncos (14-3-2) had a four-game win streak snapped and were limited to singles for Michael Zavoli, Nick Bogaerts, Jake Meyer and A.J. Christoffer.

Conant 5, Grayslake Central 3: Jack Reiger doubled in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning to help the Cougars top the Northern Lake County Conference leaders.

Reiger finished 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, and Mason Sykes doubled and finished 2-for-4 for the Cougars (10-8-1).

Carl Zillinskas and Teague Conrad combined on 3⅔ scoreless relief innings, with Zillinskas getting the win and Conrad the save as Conant played an error-free game.

St. Viator falls twice: The Lions suffered a pair of East Suburban Catholic Conference losses on the road, falling to Marist 5-0 in the first game and 11-4 in the second.

In the first game, Marist's Matthew Mirabella tossed a complete-game 2-hitter, with Casey Pulikowski getting a pair of singles for the Lions.

In the second game, St. Viator actually out-hit Marist 7-6 but also committed 5 errors. Hunter Johnson, Ryan Stejskal and Jack Mahoney drove in runs for the the Lions (11-10, 2-6).

Crete-Monee 8, Schaumburg 3: The visiting Saxons scored once in the top of the sixth to tie it at 3, but Crete-Monee responded with 5 runs in the bottom half for a nonconference victory.

Peter Kandefer doubled and drove in a run for Schaumburg (4-13), but the Saxons managed only 4 hits and committed 5 errors.

Maine West 6, Glenbrook South 4: Three Warriors pitchers combined on a 7-hitter and Matt Johnston and Emmett Olson drove in 2 runs apiece to help Maine West earn a Central Suburban crossover win.

Matty Mustari pitched the first 4 innings and earned the win; Nick Hernandez relieved for 1 inning and Cory Scholler tossed 2 scoreless to finish and earn the save.

David Roscoe drove in 1 run and Scholler scored twice for Maine West (6-9).

Romeoville 7, Elk Grove 5: The host Grens jumped in front late at 5-4 after scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. But Romeoville answered with 3 in the top of the seventh in nonconference play.

Justin Post finished 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, and Ryne Singsank had the only extra-base hit for Elk Grove (5-10-1), a double.
