More than 100 displaced after fire in Waukegan
Dozens of families were displaced Saturday afternoon after a fire in Waukegan.
The Waukegan Fire Department was called to a four-story apartment building in the 3000 block of 8th Street at about 12:30 p.m., according to Deputy Fire Marshal Todd Zupec. The fire was "extensive" and the building sustained "heavy structural damage to the roof and multiple floors," Zupec said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Zupec estimated that around 120 people were displaced by the fire. The Red Cross was on scene helping affected residents.
