Softball: Adams' slam helps Mundelein past Z-B
Breanna Adams belted a grand slam, singled and knocked in 5 runs, as Mundelein's softball team defeated Zion-Benton 12-10 in North Suburban Conference action Tuesday.
The Mustangs also got 2 hits apiece from Danielle Lambert, Elise Bernett (double), Molly Podraza (4 runs) and Kira Buckner (RBI). Kaitlyn Griffin had a double and 4 RBI, and Cheyenne Pelletiere also had a double.
Lake Zurich 22, Waukegan 9: Haley Gajewski (2-for-4) had a homer, single and 6 RBI, as the Bears cruised in North Suburban Conference action.
Maura Ginn was 2-for-4 with 5 RBI, and Brinn Mackenzie went 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI. Lake Zurich's other offensive contributors included Megan Croke (2-for-3, 3 runs), Julia Zaucha (2-for-4, 4 runs), Elizabeth Chialdikas (2-for-2, homer, 2 RBI), Stephanie Keefe (1-for-3, 5 runs, 3 RBI) and Nina Kolb (1-for-3, 2 RBI).
Grant 11, Round Lake 1: The Bulldogs won the Northern Lake County Conference game in five innings, getting 2 hits apiece from Sydney Goessele (3 RBI), Liz Schram (double, 3 RBI) and Maddy Quinn.
Meghan Chapman pitched a complete game, striking out six, and helped herself with a triple and an RBI. Grant also got a double from Erin Bengston.
Grayslake Central 12, Wauconda 1: Elisa Koshy homered, doubled and drove in 3 runs, and the Rams captured the Northern Lake County Conference game.
Grayslake Central (11-5, 6-1) also got 2 hits apiece from Brooke Heraty, Nicole Buerger (double), Lexi Waigand and Corinne Heidloff. Winning pitcher Grace Bradley went all 7 innings in the circle, striking out nine and not walking a batter. She scattered 5 hits and the run she allowed was unearned.
Wauconda's Maggie Bonefas was 2-for-3 with a double.
Antioch 15, Grayslake North 4: The Sequoits pounded out 20 hits in five innings and cruised to their 10th win in 11 games.
Piper Foote (3-for-4, homer, double, 4 RBI) and Aslyn Sundell (3-for-5) led the way offensively for Antioch (10-5, 4-1). Deighton Butenschoen (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Kayla Burkhart (2-for-2, 2 RBI) and Avery Malicki (2-for-3, 2 RBI) also homered. The Sequoits' other offensive contributors included Kaylee Schreiner (2-for-3, double, stolen base), Megan Lawrence (2-for-4, 3 RBI, stolen base), Abby Pyburn (2-for-4, RBI) and winning-pitcher Jerianne Bonaguidi (2-for-3, triple).
Grayslake North (5-5, 2-2) got a 2-run homer from Faith Standerski, solo home run from Grace Brown and double from Jess Pozezinski.
Brown set a school record by homering in her fifth consecutive game. She is batting .650 (13-for-20) during the stretch.
Carmel 6, St. Viator 2: Freshmen Kyla Rapplean, Hailie Swiatkowski and Allison Schiltz delivered for the Corsairs in their East Suburban Catholic Conference game.
Rapplean hit a 2-run homer and finished 2-for-3, Swiatkowski was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Schiltz went 2-for-3. Carmel (13-5, 3-0) also got 2 hits and an RBI from Bella Anichini. Marla Walinski earned the win.
Vernon Hills 10, Deerfield 4: Delaney Bowen went 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI, and the Cougars won in Central Suburban League action.
Elis Handler (3-for-5, 2 stolen bases) also had 3 hits, and Tatiana Guletsky (2-for-4) smacked a pair of doubles. Nicole Pieper (double, 2 RBI) and Madison Johnson also went 2-for-4, and Quin Yuter had a double. Johnson went the distance in the circle. She allowed 9 hits and 3 walks but also struck out nine.
