Barrington principal selected for new NIU fellows program

Katie Matthews, principal at Grove Avenue Elementary School in Barrington, has been selected as a member of the first Northern Illinois University Marguerite F. Key Fellows Program.

The NIU program aims to intellectually challenge principals who have worked to enrich the lives of college-aspiring students and their families. The purpose also is to identify and reward school administrators who have used new and inventive strategies to benefit the future of students and communities.

The program was created in 2017 to honor the commitments of Key, a lifelong advocate of K-12 education in Illinois. Matthews is one of only seven candidates selected from a pool across Illinois. She'll attend an induction ceremony at NIU on June 21. Barrington Area Unit District 220 board members earlier this week recognized Matthews for her achievement.
