Investigation says Waukegan officer who shot man was justified

After conducting an investigation, the Lake County state's attorney's office said the Waukegan officer who shot a 27-year-old man in December was justified in his decision to use deadly force.

Authorities said that on Dec. 26, Prado arrived at the Waukegan Police Department in a stolen vehicle, went up to the officer - who was sitting in his parked squad car - and demanded his firearm. Prado pointed a BB gun at the officer, who shot him, according to the Waukegan Police news release.

Prado was hospitalized as a result of his injuries for several days. Prado was charged with aggravated robbery, attempting to disarm a peace officer, possession of a stolen vehicle and aggravated assault, In early January, his bail was set at $150,000.
