Boys track: Prospect, Barrington net division wins

Prospect's steady approach produced a victory in the Mid-Suburban East boys track and field meet hosted by the Knights on Tuesday.

Prospect won the 4 x 200 relay in 1:33.21 and placed the other relays in the top three while counting individual wins from Nate Cozine in the 800 (2:04.12), Michael Shafis in the high jump (6-2) and Tommy Morton in the discus (139-9).

The Knights finished at 331 points, ahead of runner-up Rolling Meadows (254) and third-place Buffalo Grove (224).

Wheeling's Lawrence Knish won the 300 hurdles (41.87), the 200 (23.22) and the long jump (20-8.5).

Hersey won the 4 x 800 relay and counted victories from Ryan Theisen in the 3,200 (9:57.20) and Josh Methner in the 1,600 (4:27.83).

Rolling Meadows was dominant afield, with a 1-2-3 shot put finish from Will Rezny (54-9.5), Andrew Neville and Joseph Boyer. The Mustangs' Ian Simonson won pole vault (11-6), Kacper Lesniak won the triple jump (41-7) and teammate Tim Szylak won the 110 hurdles (15.85).

Buffalo Grove won the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays. Individually, the Bison's Andriy Mykulyanych won the 100 in 11.47 and Jon Peici won the 400 (52.33).

Barrington tops in West: The Broncos rose to the top against their Mid-Suburban West foes, taking top honors at Schaumburg with 216.5 points.

Hoffman Estates was second (203), followed by Fremd (133.5).

One key for Barrington was a 1-2-3 sweep in the 3,200 led by James Lyon. Luis Cossio won the 200 in 22.82, Brad Warman won the shot (56-8) and Mark Di Iorio won discus (159-6), and Nick Laning was tops in both the 800 and the 1,600.

Hoffman Estate senior standout Declan Rustay prevailed in the 100 (10.95) and 400 (49.89). Other Hawks winners included Marshall Davis in the long jump (20-10) and Jonah Walton in high jump (5-10).

Fremd's Jaden Jackson won the 300 hurdles, and Schaumburg's Victor Olaitan was tops in the 110s.
