Porto beats Benfica with late goal to go top in Portugal

LISBON, Portugal (AP) - Midfielder Hector Herrera scored in the 90th minute to snatch a 1-0 win for FC Porto over Benfica on Sunday as it replaced its title rival at the top of the Portuguese league.

Benfica was heading toward a draw that would have kept it top until Herrera's long-range strike stunned the hosts.

"We were convinced that we could win at this stadium," Herrera said.

The win lifted Porto two points ahead of Benfica, whose four-year run as domestic champion is now in danger of ending.

"We are sad but we have to continue," said Benfica coach Rui Vitoria. "This is not over. There are still four rounds left."
