Police: Aurora man tossed gun after causing four-vehicle crash

Aurora police said Friday that a 39-year-old Aurora man has been charged with multiple felonies after earlier this week causing a four-vehicle crash and tossing a handgun afterward.

Police said Linneal L. Washington, of the 300 block of Superior Street, faces five counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and a single count of unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon.

He was also charged with driving too fast for conditions in connection with the chain-reaction crash that occurred around 3:25 p.m. at Lake Street and Rathbone Avenue on Monday.

According to police, Washington's car started the crash, which occurred while all four cars were going south on Lake.

After the crash, witnesses reported Washington ran across traffic and threw an object on the east side of Lake Street, officials said, and then ran back to his car and waited for police to arrive. Police said they found a loaded handgun inside a pouch in a ditch.
