Conant's girls water polo team came up with a big game in a big moment on Wednesday, topping host Barrington 13-4 to extend its lead in the Mid-Suburban West.
The Cougars got 7 goals from Olivia Olszewski and 3 from Nia Tsoulos in improving to 16-2 overall and 7-0 in the division. Barrington, Conant's closest pursuer in the league race, slipped to 8-5 and 5-2.
Lauren Day stopped 5 shots for Conant, which needs just 1 win in its final three MSL West games to earn the division's spot in the championship game.
Hersey 14, Rolling Meadows 4: Emily Born scored a game-best 5 goals as MSL East leader Hersey stayed unbeaten.
Hersey is 18-0 overall and 7-0 in the league and can clinch a spot in the MSL title game with one more divisional win.
Maggie Goodwin led Rolling Meadows (7-8, 2-5) with 2 goals.
Fremd 10, Palatine 7: The visiting Vikes scored 4 first-period goals and protected their lead with 4 goals from Lauren Streitmatter, 3 from Sophia Kuehn and 2 from Meagan Helsdingen to improve to 8-8 overall and 3-3 in the MSL West.
Maggie O'Brien (4 goals) and Ellis Nelson (2) led the way for the Pirates (2-17, 1-6).
Elk Grove 8, Buffalo Grove 7 (sudden death): Tied with Buffalo Grove through regulation and after the two OTs, host Elk Grove got the decisive goal from Gillian Guerra - her only goal of the game.
Other key contributors for the Grens (10-3, 6-1) included Alyssa Bonilla (2 goals, 3 steals), Kaylee Hatfield (3 goals, 5 steals), Rachel Ford (1 goal, 2 steals) and goalie Melena Herrera (21 saves, 2 assists).
Prospect 13, Wheeling 6: Senior Colleen Doyle scored a game-high 5 goals and Ann Fulk had 2 to power the host Knights (8-7, 5-2).
Schaumburg 10, Hoffman Estates 4: Ingrid Hay and Kailey Cordova both finished with 3 goals to help lift the visiting Saxons (7-9, 3-4) in MSL West action.
Abigail Fuscone scored twice to pace the Hawks (5-14, 1-6).
