Portrayer tells story of poet Emily Dickinson

"The Belle of Amherst," the story of Emily Dickinson, will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday, April 20, and Saturday, April 21, at The Parker Playhouse, 117 E. Northwest Hwy., in Barrington. Tickets are available at www.parkerplayhousebarrington.org.

Don't miss the story of one of America's most prolific poets, as portrayed by Paddy Lynn, a professional storyteller and actress. Lynn will be doing a 45-minute cutting of William Luce's play, "The Belle of Amherst," followed by a discussion of this beloved poet.

Discover the complexities of Emily Dickinson, the trials and tribulations of her short life, and the inspiration behind the more than 1,700 poems she wrote.

Paddy Lynn started her love for acting at the age of 6 when she first stepped on the stage in a school play. From that time on, she has been involved with more than 100 productions in educational, community and professional theaters.

She attended Illinois State University in the late '70s, and received a bachelor's degree in theater. Since then, Lynn has worked as a performer, and has run a variety of children's programs for various theater companies.

Her love for literature and performing launched her storytelling career 20 years ago. Lynn now has many different programs available for preschoolers all the way up to adults. Her programs include "storyacting" for youngsters, a variety of storytelling and history programs for middle school and high school students and adults.

Lynn is a member of National Storytelling Association, Illinois Storytelling Inc., The Illinois Arts Council, the Illinois Humanities Council and The Illinois Theatre Association. She has performed in many schools and libraries across Illinois, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Iowa, as well as in Mexico.
