Girls track: Prospect prevails against Wheeling, Hoffman

Prospect's girls track and field team pulled out a victory over host Wheeling in a Mid-Suburban League triangular meet Tuesday.

The Knights, a sectional champion last year, finished with 72 points. Wheeling, the MSL's indoor champ a few weeks ago, had 66.5, and Hoffman Estates 37.5.

Prospect had the winning 4 x 200 relay, the top 4 x 400 relay and had individual wins from Lia Skoufos in the 800 run (2:26.1) and Marissa Valentini in the 400 (62.7).

Wheeling took the 4 x 100 relay and had a double winner in Nicole Nguyen, who was tops in the 100 (12.7) and the 300 hurdles (51.0).

Hoffman Estates' Makiyha Blackwell had big efforts to win both shot put (39-1) and discus (111-8).

• Conant senior Victoria Marzec had victories in both the 400 dash (1:04) and the triple jump (33-1) to help the Cougars amass 74 points in a victory over Rolling Meadows (65) and Fremd (45). Leah Jones also won twice for Conant, in the 110 hurdles (16.74) and the 300 hurdles (50.22).

• Palatine was dominant at Schaumburg, winning three relays and getting hurdles victories from Erin Oleksak for 99.5 points in a win against the host Saxons (55.5) and Elk Grove (31).

Oleksak won the 110 in 15.98 and the 300 in 48.96.

Senior Maddie Marasco was tops for Schaumburg in both the 800 (2:15.57) and the 400 (1:01.61).

• Barrington finished with with 99.5 points to better Hersey (61.5) and host Buffalo Grove (27) in an MSL triangular.

Gabby Cossio hurdled to wins in both the 110 (17.7) and 300 (53.21) hurdles for the Fillies.

Nya Carr won the 100 (12.9) and 200 (27.6) for the Bison, and Hersey's Barbara Rydzewski took both shot put (33-4) and discus (115-6).
