Girls soccer: Verbeten's header helps Libertyville past Minooka

Morgan Verbeten sealed victory for Libertyville's girls soccer team in the 56th minute, as the host Wildcats edged Minooka 2-1 in a second-round match of the PepsiCo Showdown on Tuesday night.

Verbeten headed in a Brynn Miller corner kick in the 56th minute. Allison Tong scored off an assist from Jada Higgins in the first half for the Wildcats (4-0).

Libertyville keeper Kendall Edwards made 6 saves.

Round Lake 1, Zion-Benton 0: Leslie Lopez scored the only goal in the nonconference match, and Giselle Raygoza earned the clean sheet in net with 3 saves.

Warren 3, York 2: The Blue Devils prevailed in the PepsiCo Showdown match, outscoring their opponent 4-2 in penalty kicks.

Courtney Chomko had a goal and an assist for Warren (3-4). Cate Cullison had the Blue Devils' other goal with Liza Matimore earning the assist.

Warren goalie Sarah Barbosa had 7 saves.

Glenbrook North 5, Grayslake Central 0: Taylor Ford had 10 saves in net for the Rams.
