Softball: Bertsche bests Maine West with 6-hitter

Leyden junior Emma Bertsche tossed a 6-hitter with 8 strikeouts as the Eagles stopped visiting Maine West 12-2 in Monday's 6-inning nonconference game in Franklin Park.

Leyden was led on offense by Kailey Kirkwood (2-for-4, RBI, 2 runs, double) and Elle Engelke (2-for-2, 2 runs, RBI, triple).

Also recording doubles for the hosts were Erika Arroyo, Alyssa Monarrez, Yaritza Frias and Breanne Deutscher. Meghan Fontanetta and Sara Cole also tripled for the Eagles.

Maine West (4-4) was led on offense by junior Gabby Demma, who went 3-for-3 with a double. Sophomore Brianna Torres added a triple for the Warriors who received 7 strikeouts from sophomore pitcher Jessica Steingard.
