Girls water polo: Hersey, still unbeaten, wins own tournament
Girls water polo
Hersey's girls water polo team remains unbeaten after topping four opponents Saturday in the tournament hosted by the Huskies.
The Mid-Suburban East leaders improved to 15-0 overall after defeating Hoffman Estates, Morton, Stagg and, in the closest matchup of the day, St. Charles North (9-5). The Huskies were tied with the North Stars 5-5 before pulling away.
Sisters Katie and Annie Lindgren both earned spots on the all-tournament team for coach Megan Brownley's team.
Conant 3-0 at Glenbrook South: The Mid-Suburban West leaders added victories against Glenbrook South (13-6), Evanston (9-7) and Hinsdale Central (14-8) to take top honors.
In the contest against Glenbrook South, Nia Tsoulos and Olivia Olszewski both scored 4 goals and goalie Lauren Day stopped 4 shots.
Again Evanston, Olszewski led the way in scoring with 5 goals and also drew 3 ejections, while Tsoulos had 2 goals and Day made 4 saves.
In the last matchup of the day, against Hinsdale Central, Tsoulos scored 7 goals and Olszewski had 5 as the Cougars took control by limiting the Red Devils to 2 goals over the middle two quarters.
Prospect wins at Maine East: Coach Tori Shields' team defeated Palatine, Bradley and Palatine to take top honors in the six-team round-robin tournament.
Maine West 2-1 at Vernon Hills: The Warriors earned wins against Wheeling and Warren but fell 11-4 to Lincoln-Way East.
Fremd 2-1 at home: The Vikings, who topped Niles West on Friday and Libertyville early Saturday, dropped the first-place matchup 13-4 to Metea Valley.
