250 set as goal for 25th annual Batavia City-Wide Garage Sale sign-up
The annual Batavia City-Wide Garage Sale will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 4-5.
The citywide garage sale is celebrating its 25th anniversary and it will be the biggest one yet. What once started with 25 sales has now blossomed into a yearly tradition where Batavia residents come together to spring clean and sell their stuff on the first weekend in May.
This fundraiser is one of the biggest events that the volunteers of the Batavia Fireworks Committee host each year to help raise the funds to put on Batavia's Fourth of July Sky Concert in Engstrom Park. In honor of this tradition and its 25 years of success, they are hoping for a record garage sale year. The goal is to have at least 250 garage and/or yard sales registered for this special Batavia event.
If you are hosting a garage/yard sale, register by 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, online at www.BataviaFireworks.org and pay the $35 registration fee. All proceeds go to the Batavia Fireworks Fund. Printed registrations will be available in your city utility bill, Neighbors Magazine and can be downloaded from the website.
Sales must be held within the City of Batavia and/or within the Batavia Township limits.
Registration guarantees that your sale will be listed on the printed maps that are distributed to thousands of potential shoppers as well as on the online map on the website.
Two Google Home devices will be given away - one device per each side of the river. The drawing will be held Saturday, May 5. You must be a registered sale to win.
The Batavia Fireworks Committee advertises this event in all the local newspapers, city calendars, multiple social media outlets and on Craigslist.
Pick up your sale packet from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, from city hall, 100 N. Island Ave., Batavia. Packet includes copies of the garage sale map, signs, balloons, and flowers donated by Shady Hill Gardens in Elburn (www.shadyhill.com).
Host your sale on Friday and Saturday, May 4-5.
Garage sale shoppers, printed maps will be available after Wednesday, May 2, at city hall and other establishments around town. You can visit the website to see a list of providers. There will also be a digital map of all the sales that you can use on your cellphone on the days of the sales.
The Batavia Fourth of July Sky Concert is made possible by the sponsors, fundraising events organized by the Batavia Fireworks Committee, donations from residents throughout the year, and the citywide garage sale.
