INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Latest on heavy rainfall that has spurred flooding in central Indiana (all times local):

Flood waters have washed away a portion of an eastern Indiana road.

The Richmond Palladium-Item water flowing under East Kitchel Road northeast of the town of Liberty, Indiana, undermined it and washed away a section of the pavement from shoulder to shoulder Tuesday afternoon.

Video posted on the newspaper's website shows the pavement tumbling into the rushing water below it.

Liberty is about 65 miles east of Indianapolis.

12:25 p.m.

Heavy rainfall that's spawned flooding across central Indiana has set new April rainfall records in the city of Indianapolis.

The National Weather Service says Tuesday's deluge initially broke a rainfall record for the date when thunderstorms dropped 2.4 inches of rain, eclipsing the previous record set in 1892.

Additional storms pushed Tuesday's rainfall total to 3.12 inches shortly before noon, setting a new daily rainfall record for the month of April in Indiana's capital. The old record was 3.06 inches set on April 19, 2011.

Indianapolis' rainfall records were expected to grow because more rain was headed toward the city.

A flash flood warning covers an area from Terre Haute to Indianapolis to Greensburg, extending to the Ohio state line. Tuesday's rainfall was causing flooded streets, streams and creeks.

Strong thunderstorms that swept heavy rains into Indiana overnight has prompted a flash flood warning for a swath of the state's mid-section.

The warning issued Tuesday morning covers an area from Terre Haute to Indianapolis to Greensburg, extending to the Ohio state line. The National Weather Service says 1 to 2 inches of rain has fallen in that area and rains were continuing.

Residents were urged to pay close attention to water levels in smaller streams and creeks, while motorists were reminded not to drive into floodwaters.

Television footage showed cars stuck in high water Tuesday morning on Interstate 65 along Indianapolis' south suburbs.

The weather service says Indianapolis had received 2.4 inches of rain by midmorning Tuesday, breaking the previous rainfall record for the date set 1892.
