Antioch teen hospitalized after crash near Lake Villa
An Antioch teen was injured after crashing his SUV on Route 45 near Lake Villa Tuesday afternoon.
The Lake County sheriff's office said in a news release that the 16-year-old, who was not identified, was rescued from his crashed 2000 Ford Expedition. The vehicle had struck a gas line, which was actively leaking.
The teen was taken to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville with critical injuries.
Witnesses told police that the teen was driving on Route 45 north of Grand Avenue when the vehicle went off the east side of the road. The initial investigation shows that the SUV struck a tree and the gas line. The reason why the truck left the road is not yet known.
The crash is being investigated by the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
