Baseball: Vernon Hills pitches in for victory over Boylan
It was pitching by committee as Vernon Hills used a different pitcher each inning to secure a 6-1 victory over visiting Rockford Boylan in nonconference baseball on Monday.
The Cougars' staff allowed 1 unearned run on 3 hits while walking 6 and striking out 7. Danny Wizceb started and earned the win.
Wizceb (2-for-2, 2B, 3RBI) helped his own cause by driving in 3 runs. Tony Brown also had two hits and four stolen bases in the win.
Vernon Hills improves to 6-3.
Carmel 5, Prospect 4: Austin Ehren went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run and 2 RBI to lead Carmel.
Charley Dir added 2 hits as did winning pitcher Lukas Galdoni. Galdoni also had a double.
Grayslake Central 11, Niles North 0: The host Rams stayed hot in their first game back from Florida as they defeated Niles North.
Tony Neuman led the 9-hit attack with 3 singles and 2 RBI. Clay Stoffel had a bases-loaded clearing double and Max Snowden chipped in with a pair of singles as the Rams improved to 6-0 on the season.
Junior Eric Sturm tossed 3 innings of 1-hit ball to go with 3 strikeouts in picking up the victory. Ray Bradley and Jack Fortmann both tossed scoreless innings for Grayslake Central.
Mundelein 11, Zion-Benton 1: Mundelein shot out to a quick start and was up 10-0 through three innings.
Drew Breitenreiter and Ryan Patel each had 2 hits and 2 RBI.
Winning pitcher Steve Sanchez had 3 striketouts in three innings.
