Swap screen time for family time at Schaumburg Park District.

Family Fun Night is set for 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, at The Sport Center, 1141 W. Irving Park Road.

Activities include gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, soccer, T-ball and softball. A preschool tot-lot with riding toys will be available in the gym, with bingo played in The Sport Center's meeting room.

"We host this event every year to give families in the community the chance to sample all there is to do here," said Karen Shannon, manager of The Sport Center. "There's a variety of different programs for all ages throughout the year at The Sport Center."

Registration is required. Cost is free to residents and $8 per family for nonresidents. For information, call (847) 891-1266 or visit parkfun.com.

For kids who have an interest in sports, the park district's All Star Sports classes - including T-ball, basketball, soccer and parent/tot programs - begin in April at The Sport Center.

Available to children ages 2 to 8, All Star Sports classes are designed for kids of all skill levels, with coaching techniques that provide basic building blocks in a fun, safe environment.

"Our youth sports programs are a great way to introduce little ones to sports for the first time, or to help improve basic athletic skills like balance and hand-eye coordination," said Shannon.

Earth Day at Spring Valley Nature Center

Schaumburg Park District is hosting a bash to celebrate Earth Day and you're invited.

Set for noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, Earth Day Party features games, crafts, birdhouse building, beekeeping demonstrations and live owl and hawk displays.

Children also will catapult wildflower seeds into the prairie to help beautify the landscape, join in a StoryWalk with Schaumburg Township District Library and chase gigantic bubbles created by a professional bubble maker.

"The whole family will have a chance to learn about things related to our local environment and how we can all care for the planet," said Dave Brooks, manager of conservation services. "We're planning a day of activities that are child-focused, fun, interactive and fascinating. And since Bison's Bluff is right down the trail, children can go between the playground and the event."

Admission is free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
