Don't let dreamers be political pawns
I think we can all agree that the overriding issue pertaining to DACA needs to be resolved fairly once and for all. They've been here for years and are our neighbors and friends.
President Obama did them a disservice by circumventing the legislative process. President Donald Trump, on the other hand, has proposed a much more generous solution that goes well beyond the original DACA population covered by Obama. Trump's Executive Order brings the issue back to where it rightfully resides for resolution constitutionally.
Yet, there are angels and demons circling among the Democratic senators that preclude an honest brokered attempt to get to a solution. One, if not more Democrats, have privately confided with others accross the aisle that they are conflicted. Conflicted in the sense that they'd like to work with the president's proposal, the angel on their shoulder, yet struggling with the demon on their other shoulder. The latter demonic logic hopes to seek political advantage for the upcoming fall election by withholding support.
It is unconscionable that these so-called dreamers are being used as pawns in a political power struggle. These conflicted Democrats should be held accountable and called out by the media and others. It is no way to govern.
The president is right, the Democrats do not want a DACA fix. It is obstruction at its worse.
