Elmhurst kids learn the science behind flight

That buzzing sound you're hearing these days around Elmhurst is coming from a beagle who thinks he's a World War I flying ace riding atop his doghouse in pursuit of the dreaded Red Baron.

It's all a result of the Elmhurst History Museum's newest exhibit, "Snoopy and the Red Baron," and assorted activities at the museum and elsewhere in the city relating to the Peanuts comic strip.

On Thursday, kids at the Elmhurst Public Library got to learn a little about the science of flight through a series of hands-on activities in an interactive STEM program that focused on science, technology, engineering and math.

"Having STEM parties has been so much fun," Librarian Gloria Walsh-Rock said. "It gives families a chance to do activities together and learn about different science principles."
