Voting and phone privacy

In the recent election, I learned something I didn't know. The evening of the election, I got a text message asking me if I had voted and whether I'd be willing to vote for a particular candidate.

Since I am extremely careful about who gets my phone number, I asked to be removed from their list, but also asked how they got my phone number. They told me that the Board of Elections gave them my phone number.

I've contacted the Board of Elections and they informed me that my phone number would be removed from their records. If you feel this is an issue for you, you might want to contact them.
