Metra service restored after pedestrian fatality near Barrington

A pedestrian was struck and killed by Metra commuter train north of Barrington early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Train service on the Union Pacific Northwest Line was stopped for several hours while authorities conducted the death investigation.

The inbound 606 train hit the pedestrian at 5:50 a.m. in an unincorporated area near Hart Road, Metra spokesman Tom Miller confirmed.

Inbound and outbound trains eventually began running again, officials said.

Lake County sheriff's police were investigating the death.
