Baseball: Prospect shuts out St. Charles East
Prospect's baseball team picked up its first victory of the season as pitchers John Czeslawski and Bryce Jensen combined on a 2-hit shutout of visiting St. Charles East on Friday in nonconference play.
The Knights pushed across a run in the sixth inning to win 1-0.
Czeslawski started and allowed both of the Saints' hits in a 4-inning stint with 2 walks and 1 strikeout. Jensen pitched 3 hitless innings and allowed 1 walk with 1 strikeout.
Nick Ergastolo's double in the sixth scored Czeslawski. Ryan Howe went 2-for-2 with a walk, and Czeslawski and Tyler Priessing accounted for the other Prospect hits.
Rolling Meadows 7, South Elgin 7: The host Mustangs snatched a tie from the jaws of defeat by rallying for 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Ryan Lane finished 2-for-3 with a double, and Joe Marcucci and Angelo Shands also had doubles. Nate Pardini, Matt Lothery, Joe Coen and Javonte Jones-Warner also had hits for Rolling Meadows (0-2-1).
Elk Grove 3, Niles West 3: Nick Hofmann was at the center of the action for the host Grens (2-0-1) in a contest that last 5 innings.
As leadoff man in the lineup, he had both of Elk Grove's hits, finishing 2-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and a run score.
Hofmann also handled mounded duties, tossing all 5 innings and allowing 5 hits with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Crystal Lake South 10, Conant 0 (6 inn.): Kyle Lang (5 IP, 7 strikeouts) and Mark Paul (1 IP, 3 strikeouts) were dominant on the mound for the visiting Gators. The only hit for Conant (1-1-1) came from Dave Sapyta.
Addison Trail 5, Schaumburg 3: The host Blazers jumped in front with a 3-run first inning and managed to protect their lead the rest of way for a nonconference win.
Albert Kiszka and Nick Calip had 2 hits apiece and Ben Kim doubled for the Saxons.
Streamwood 11, Wheeling 6: Kyle Bullock (2-for-4) had a 2-run double in the fourth inning while Drew Roberts (3-for-4) and Cade Zalewski (2-for-3, 1 run, RBI) were also mutiple hitters for the visiting Wildcats (4-1) against the Sabres (3-0).
Andy Shover, Michael Best, and Kevin Pavia each had an RBI for Wheeling in its 5-run fourth inning.
