Authorities: Wanted man who crashed into Waukegan police car arrested
The Lake County sheriff's office apprehended a man suspected of three felonies who crashed into a Waukegan police car earlier this week, authorities said Wednesday.
Jacob T Powell, 29, of the 3000 block of Belvidere Road in Waukegan, was wanted on felony charges of unlawful possession of weapons by felon, aggravated fleeing a police officer and possession of defaced firearm. Federal marshals and the Waukegan Police Department attempted to take Powell into custody about 1:30 p.m. on Monday at a Waukegan Red Roof Inn. According to the sheriff's office, Powell rwefused to leave his vehicle and instead put the car in reverse and hit a Waukegan police car.
Later Monday, sheriff's police dog Diesel found Powell under a deck. He was taken to a hospital for his injuries before being released into custody.
After a search of Powell's hotel room, authorities charged Powell with 10 additional counts, six of which are drug-related.
Powell is being held on $300,000 bail, and his next court appearance is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. April 4.
