Fire started by candle causes $10,000 of damage to Downers Grove-area home
A fire started by candle caused $10,000 worth of damage to a home near Downers Grove Monday night, officials said.
No one was injured in the blaze, which started in a second-floor bedroom at a home on the 2000 block of Maple Avenue around 10 p.m., according to a Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District news release on Tuesday.
When fire crews from the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District and Downers Grove Fire Department arrived, a resident of the home told them everyone was out. Fire crews were able to douse the flames in less than five minutes.
Officials also urged people not to leave lighted candles unattended or put them too close to fabrics, such as drapes, that could be blown into them.
