Rare academic air for Barrington High student

A Barrington High School student is in rare air when it comes to taking an Advanced Placement microeconomics exam.

Senior Hari Ramakrishnan was one of just 26 students worldwide to notch a perfect score on the AP microeconomics test he took in spring 2017. That information came to Barrington Area Unit District 220 from the College Board, which operates the Advanced Placement programs at high schools.

Trevor Packer, a College Board vice president of the AP program and instruction, wrote a letter about Ramakrishnan's perfect score to Barrington High Principal Stephen McWilliams. Packer said Ramakrishnan's performance was "so superior that it falls into a rather select category."

Barrington High was one of 50 schools with students who received perfect scores on the challenging AP exams. The Advanced Placement program affords interested and academically prepared students an opportunity to pursue college-level studies while in high school.
