The award-winning Koinonia Trio will perform at the David Adler Music and Arts Center at 7 p.m. Friday, March 9, to celebrate Libertyville's Fine Arts Month.

The trio, comprising University of Michigan doctoral students Hyejin Cho on piano, Christine Harada Li on violin, and tenor Nathaniel Pierce will also feature guest artist Richard Narroway on cello.

The trio will perform works by Brahms, Ives and Vaughn Williams. Listeners may hear familiar snippets of traditional American tunes in the piece by Ives, which features melodies from "My Old Kentucky Home" and "Rock of Ages." Ives' trio is a tribute to his college years at Yale.

"'Koinonia,' comes from the Greek word for communion, or joint participation," Nathaniel Pierce said.

He hopes the audiences will hear "a musical conversation between each member of the trio. Each of the works on the program tells its own unique story, and we hope every audience member will hear a slightly different story."

The Koinonia Trio will be joined by Adler Center faculty members Juliet Dawson and Melissa Padgett for two songs by Vaughn Williams, featuring Nathaniel Pierce.

"We look forward to sharing our music with a new audience in a lovely venue," Pierce said.

Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for members, and $10 for students and may be purchased online at www.adlercenter.org or by calling (847) 367-0707. Seating is limited, so early booking is recommended.

Concertgoers are also invited to browse the Adler Center's galleries to view artwork by Libertyville-area students.
